Elizabeth (Liz) Jack
I am a firm believer in the power of creativity and imagination as a tool for personal and community vitality.
I’m Liz Jack and my career has been unconventional and out of the box.
After completing my BA in history, Australian archaeology and anthropology, then a Grad Dip in Business (tourism), I relocated to regional Western Australia and have been working with regional communities ever since.
My professional background has been in regional tourism and community development both in WA and Kangaroo Island, South Australia. I am specifically interested in how the arts and tourism interface as a powerful team in the enhancement of and protection of community and environmental values through time. This curiosity, has taken me through the public, private and not for profit sector in both operational and leadership roles.
Whilst my pathway has been eclectic, it has also generated a tool kit of useful skills, that build on my natural strategic and creative curious nature.
Over the past thirty years, I have run my own business supporting regional communities both as a tourism and strategic consultant and more recently as an entertainer and event performer through Gertrude WellEase.
I created Gertrude WellEase in 2010 as a response to an artistic prompt entitled “On Ya Trolley”. My performance involved a character (Gertrude) who roved through town, engaging and adding creative colour. As Buster Keaton once said, “What you have to do is create a character, then the character just does their best, and there's your comedy.”
My work is strongly infused with my love of travel, geology, history and the people that make a place what it is. These days I am often heading out in our little van Frank to explore and inspire myself. Gertrude represents my creative spirit and childlike imagination, that whispers to us about possibilities yet to be taken. Work History and Resume
Gertrude WellEase and the Chamber of Blessings.
The Chamber of What I hear you say!
The Chamber of Blessings. Our mission is to sow seeds of hope, one smile at a time.
I’m Gertrude WellEase, Ambassador and Founder of the Chamber of Blessings. It’s a pleasure.
Gertrude WellEase is not just a name, but a symbol of the importance of creative expression in our lives.
We believe that by embracing our creativity and our own “weirdness”, a state of well-ease can be achieved and our imaginations are released to do our creative work.
My mother was named Gertrude after her great aunt. Named after the Santa Gertrudis silver mine where her father worked in Mexico, the original Gertrude died tragically at the age of 21. My mother Gertrude Joan was named after her by her mother Daisy; Gertrude’s younger sister. My mother never used the name Gertrude. Always being referred to as Joan.
Both were creatives, both strong Cornish women, both an inspiration and lesson in the unexpected nature of life.
As a doppelganger for Liz Jack, her creative persona; I tell the story of allowing our creative childlike imagination to shine, as a tribute to our ancestors, as a muse for our personal and business growth and importantly for the ongoing evolution of the human spirit. To think outside the box, is the one thing we need now more than ever.
I may pop up in your town - or better still - invite me. We love to travel.
